Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No 1 was written in 1795, then revised in 1800. The first performance took place on 18 December 1795 in Vienna with Ludwig van Beethoven himself as soloist.

The Piano Concerto No 9 “Jenamy” (often incorrectly nicknamed “Jeunehomme”) in E-Flat Major, K. 271, by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was written in Salzburg in 1777, when Mozart was 21 years old.

The Piano Concerto No. 2 in B-Flat Major, Op. 83, by Johannes Brahms is separated by a gap of 22 years from his first piano concerto. Brahms began work on the piece in 1878 and completed it in 1881 while in Pressbaum near Vienna.

The Concerto No 2 was composed primarily between 1787 and 1789, although it did not attain the form in which it was published until 1795. Beethoven did write a second finale for it in 1798 for performance in Prague, but that is not the finale that was published.

The Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 54 was completed in the year 1845 and is the only piano concerto written by the German Romantic composer Robert Schumann. The work was premiered in Dresden on December 4, 1845.

Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23 in A major (K. 488) was finished on March 2, 1786, two months prior to the premiere of the opera, Le nozze di Figaro and some three weeks prior to the completion of his next piano concerto.
